This subject kinda gets to me. So, I am posting my two cents. First of all, I have very high energy kids, so I don't notice a difference in them when they eat sugar. If you are a parent who wants to watch the sugar that your kid eats, then you need to communicate that to the other parent prior to the kids all getting together. As long as my kids are eating 3 healthy meals a day, I could care less if they have cookies or candy. My feeling is if there was ever a time to eat the sweets, it is now when they are burning it off. In addition, because I let my kids have it, they rarely ask for it. It really irritates me when I don't know that the other parent has a sugar rule and I give my kids something and the other parent says no and their kid has a huge meltdown because one is getting it and one is not. So, parents if you don't want your kid to have it tell the other parent before getting together!

My children are very sensitive to sugar and it drastically changes their behavior. My mother in law used to give it to them all the time during her short visits then hand them off to me when they were completely out of control. My husband actually had the idea to let her suffer the consequences of her sugar indulgances. On our anniversary, we left both kids with her overnight. When we picked them up in the morning, she complained about how hard they were to get to bed. i explained that sugar reall effects them and makes it hard for them to settle down. She hasn't overindulged in sugar since.
