My daughter’s t-ball team was sharing batting helmets which has lead to a minor lice epidemic, in both our preschool and elementary school. The preschool brought in professionals to check the kids and sent the lice infested ones home for treatment.
The elementary school is no longer allowed to send children with lice home. A parent apparently objected to the policy and it has now been reversed. This means that kids with lice can continue to attend school while they are still contagious.
This literally makes my skin crawl. I am hearing horror stories of all the precautions you need to take once lice enters your home – bagging stuffed animals for weeks, boiling all the linens, putting nasty chemicals in your children’s hair and using an ouchy comb several times a day.
We send kids home with stomach flu. The vomit clean up sounds like a vacation compared to the work involved with lice removal. So I ask – why keep lice infested children at school? Is there any good reason not to send them home?

Spread light oil with essential oils (lavender, tee tree and geranium) in it all over the child’s head then pass that bug rake through every three days for one week. Bepeat again 5 days later and another 5 days after that. By doing this you suffocate and eliminate them before they’re old enough to lay more eggs. (An average life span of headlice is 30 days.In an average life span, they can lay up to 300 eggs.Their eggs are referred to as nits. The nits hatch in 7-12 days. And at the tender age of twelve, they are making babies.) Good luck!
