This is EXACTLY why I gave up on trying to be a good parent years ago. Quite frankly, I've always been adverse to criticism so I eventually found that I couldn't hack all the criticism, snide comments and 'What the hell is WRONG with her?!' remarks I received from several of my mommy peers. As Charlie Brown once quipped upon receiving no Christmas Party invitation, "I know I am unpopular, but must there be a holiday to accentuate the fact?" Left with no choice, I removed myself from the world of judgemental assholes as it was clear I did not belong there. I do think breast feeding an 18 month is wierd, though, but that could just be because I'm jealous that I'm so lacking as a mother that I was unable to produce sufficient milk to sustain my son. In short, there is little doubt in anyone's mind that I am an abject and total failure as a mother and role model, to which, I can't possibly begin to refute the evidence.

Not that I care, mind you.

Frankly, it just makes it all the sweeter when my hellions pull straight A's and are inexplicably noted for their compassionate dispositions.

I thought that that segment on the Today show was terrible. Telling moms to have manners is a cover up for telling women that they should be pleasant and friendly all the time. Sometimes there are real issues that require real debate and that can get heated. So what? The idea of mommy manners just seems like an etiquette lesson from the 1950s. Who decides what manners are appropriate anyway? Usually rich white people. "Manners" are not the issue or the problem.

Everyone has to learn how to deal with bullies in real life and on-line. I love the fact that you can sue someone for slander or libel. Teaching your children how to deal with bullies is one of the most important things you can do for them, and it goes without saying that you have to make sure they don't become bullies themselves.

I think that this site is good at throwing around ideas without attacking anyone's character.
