About Mommy Manners

When we became parents, we expected sleep deprivation and some bumps in the road with our little ones.  We were ill prepared, however, for the clashes with other parents – the random stranger whose biting criticism makes us feel like a terrible parent, the casual acquaintance who questions our parenting choices, and even the close friend or family member who takes it upon themselves to discipline our child for us, often in a way that we would not choose to do it ourselves.
There are entire books dedicated to sleep issues and potty training, but not one source we could find for navigating the minefields with other parents.  Parents are needlessly suffering alone, too embarrassed or ashamed to share their stories or seek advice.  We hope this site will offer a refuge to vent, share, advise and connect  over good strategies for handling conflicts between parents.

Jodi Cohen is a Seattle-based writer and a proud full-time mom of two kids who continually struggles with her own Mommy Manners. Outings with her children – a reserved five year old girl and a very active three year old boy – provide ample fodder for this blog.  She has benefited from many “teachable moments” along the way and hopes this site will provide a little refuge, advice and humor for the most frustrating conflicts with other parents.  Jodi is a regular contributor to Seattle’s Parent Map magazine.  Contact Jodi

Naomi Panzer is a Connecticut- based  writer and full-time mom of two kids, ages eight and five.  Naomi writes a humorous parenting column, Mommentary, which has appeared in several parenting publications in the tri-state area.  From her marketing experience at Nickelodeon, ABC/Disney, MTV and building brands from Hasbro toys to Fruity Pebbles, Naomi understands what makes kids tick (and she might be partly responsible for commercials that get your kids to nag you for a certain product—she humbly apologizes for that).   She has also written a novel for young adults.
